Bellingham Farmers Market

There’s no better way to familiarize yourself with the food and culture of an area than to visit their farmer’s markets. Whatcom County is home to five colorful and unique markets. Here are two of our favorites:

Bellingham Farmers Market1100 Railroad Ave. Bellingham, WA 98225        www.bellinghamfarmers.org
The Bellingham Farmers Market brings a little bit of country life to the heart of Whatcom County’s largest city. This lively, well-attended farmers market is just a short half-hour drive from Oostema Farmstead.

Of course, you will find your favorite fresh fruits and vegetables at the market. From familiar favorites such as carrots and lettuce to some unique local yummies such as figs, mushrooms and walnuts can all be found at the market. Other farm-fresh foods such as fresh meats, honey, nuts, milk products, herbs, and eggs are also available.
The market is home to processed artisan foods such as the area’s finest gourmet coffees and teas, jams, sauces, olives, ciders, bread, and other goodies. You can even enjoy prepared foods to take with you back to the Farmstead or enjoy right at the market. Your choices range from bar-b-que and pizza to traditional Filipino, Indian, Bavarian, and other international cuisines.

You will also enjoy local arts and craft vendors. Be sure to check out the hand-sewn and locally designed clothing and textiles. Maybe shop for a new piece of hand-crafted jewelry or a souvenir of locally made soaps. You may also find handcrafted knives, essential oils, and traditional art pieces, along with wood and glass art.
Live entertainment is almost always a part of the Bellingham Farmers Market. Musicians, magicians, mimes, and even a hula-hoop twirler have been known to perform during shopping hours.

We encourage you to check out each market’s website for current days and hours of operations.

NEW FOOD ACCESS PROGRAMS: WIC & SENIOR FMNP
The Lynden Farmers Market has been approved to accept WIC and Senior FMNP vouchers this year. We believe that fresh, nutritious food should be accessible for all. We are also in the process of applying to accept SNAP/EBT and hope to have that program running sometime this summer.

KIDS VENDOR PROGRAM
We’ve had a number of requests from parents with kids who are interested in getting involved with the market and learning about entrepreneurship. We have heard you and are responding by unveiling our new Kids Vendor Program! The last Saturday of every month we will have an opportunity for kids to sell homemade and homegrown products of their own. For more information plase email us at lyndenfarmersmarket.com
