Bellingham

About 30 minutes south

Our nearest city, right on the bay: a historic district, waterfront parks, breweries and miles of trails.

Mt. Baker

About 1 hour 15 minutes east

Follow the Mt. Baker Highway into the mountains: waterfalls on the way up, then lakes, meadows and the ski area near the end of the road.

Mountain weather changes fast. Check road and trail conditions before you head up, and carry chains in winter.

Calm water at Birch Bay State Park, with the tree-lined shore beyond

Birch Bay and Blaine

About 35 minutes west

Head west to the water for beach walks, birds and sunsets over the bay, right up by the Canadian border.
