Are you looking for things to do at Mt. Baker? Located in northern Washington, it is the highest peak in the North Cascades and the northernmost volcano in the conterminous United States. Summer months bring hiking when the road is cleared of snow to Artist Point at milepost 58, and most trails are snow-free through fall, and the winter months bring winter sports, including Downhill Skiing/Snowboarding, snowshoeing, Snowmobiling, and Cross county.
From Lynden to the peaks of Mt. Baker is only a 1-hour 15-minute drive. Mt. Baker has a little of everything to accommodate the most experienced outdoor enthusiast to the beginning hiker. Mt. Baker offers year-round activities, they include a tour through the forest, visit one of our lakes or rivers, go fishing, river rafting, bird watching, or for a change of pace, try snowshoeing or skiing. Whatever your interests may be, Mt. Baker will amaze you. On your trip to the Mountains, be sure to stop at Nooksack Falls, as it is one of the most popular waterfalls in the North Cascades.
Here are some of the best-known trails on Mt. Baker :
Glacier Area Trails, Heather Meadows & Austin Pass Picnic Area (at mileposts 55-56), and most famous Artist Point. The end of the road on Mt. Baker Highway. Artist Point is open all year round, snowshoeing in the winter and hiking in the summer. The road to Artist Point typically opens in July and remains open until the first substantial snowfall of the year, usually in late September or early October.
Maybe you want to hike to the top of Mt. Baker National Park to watch the Sunrise. We are close enough for an early start to the day, and you can come back and relax and take a quiet nap if needed.
