Taylor Shellfish Farms

Washington is known for many amazing things — scenic drives, great music, fresh coffee and incredible seafood. Taylor Shellfish farm is a hidden and delicious gem in the local seafood market and won’t disappoint the tourist who is wanting to experience the amazing seafood the area has to offer.

Nestled inconspicuously below world famous and scenic Chuckanut Drive, is the Taylor Shellfish Farm on Samish Bay. It’s been said that “getting there is half the fun” and this sentiment rings true for this destination. Chuckanut Drive has been featured in national television commercials and is known for its rugged beauty as it hugs the mountains and twists around the bay.

At around the ten mile mark along Chuckanut Drive, you will see a rather uncelebrated driveway that winds down towards the sea. The drive is short and twists amongst the trees and over some railroad tracks before it opens to the 1,700 acres of tideflats.

The Taylor Shellfish Farms have become part of the very fiber of the Pacific Northwest lifestyle. Started five generations ago, this company prides itself on a legacy of sustainability and responsible farming that continues today.

The Bow, WA location of Taylor Shellfish is known as the Samish Oyster Bar and Shellfish Market, but is known for its outstanding, fresh, farm to table shellfish. The restaurant features a delicious menu of seasonal offerings including trays of delicious oysters. Also available is a selection of local beers and wines. Be sure to call ahead to verify if inside dining is available at the time of your visit. There are waterfront picnic tables available for guests to use too. No outside food or beverages, tents or gas grills are allowed on the premises.

If you’d rather create your own kitchen masterpiece at home, you can shop at the market for a variety of yummy seafood delights. You will find goodies such as Mediterranean mussels, scallops or Dungeness Crab at the retail store.

Don’t know how to shuck your newly purchased oysters? The friendly staff at Taylor Shellfish will be happy to give you a lesson. If you’d rather, you can purchase oysters that are already shucked and ready to enjoy.

Parking is rather limited, so consider carpooling if you are planning on visiting with a larger group. And be sure to bring your camera or have your cell phone ready to capture spectacular views of the bay and the islands.
